The Photographer's Eye: Composition and Design for Better Digital Photos
A great book for understanding the rules and application of photographic composition. I see so many photographs that could be improved instantly if only they had been composed properly. Poor composition is predominantly a beginners problem and as such, if you are new to photography it’s a subject that should be gaining your attention before anything else!

Teach Yourself VISUALLY Photoshop CS3
If you are new to PhotoShop and need to know where the various tools and options are located and how to use them, then this book is very simply to understand and learn from. With all graphics in colour, well spaced and simple to learn exercises you will find your new journey into PhotoShop less painful and more like fun!
Adobe Photoshop CS3 for Photographers:
A modern classic teaching the correct use of Photoshop for commercial editing procedures. It contains a very good introduction to colour management and output for printing etc. Not strictly a beginners book, but for the average user who would like to step up a level with their editing skills, this title is recommended.
Another classic and highly recommended book on the difficult subject of masking. Forget all of those third-party masking plug-ins, once you have studied the techniques explained in this book, you wont be needing them!
Adobe Photoshop Restoration and Retouching
By the same author – Katrin Eiseman has produced what many consider to be the definitive text on restoration. If you like to repair damaged photographs, this book has everything that you need to know.
